Basic Intro to Sea Kayaking

Basic Kayak Skills training is the starting point of your Sea Kayaking journey. The purpose of this class is to teach you how to paddle as effortlessly as possible while keeping the kayak going in a straight line.

Starting at the beach we will begin teaching you how to correctly get in and out of your kayak. Then comes paddling techniques, and forward and reverse strokes to maintain a steady course without relying on your rudder. We will show you how to perform a high and low brace to keep yourself from capsizing.  A brief introduction to Tides and Weather is also introduced in this course.

The main skills you should take away from this course is how to  kayak safely in calm waters along a shore with many landing options.  We will also give you some pointers for  buying your first kayak.

This course is also for anyone who wants a taste of sea kayaking and what the initial costs are before taking up this sport.

The  focus is on individual safety and comfort.
Upon completion of this course students will be able to confidently paddle in sheltered waters.
Students will leave this course encouraged to continue their learning progression.

The cost of the Basic Kayak Skills Course is $175 per person (kayak and paddling gear provided) with a minimum of 2 people per course.  This 8-hour course will include approximately 6 hours on-the-water training and can be completed in 2 x four-hour sessions over one weekend.
