Sea Kayaking Level 1 Skills

The Level 1 Sea Kayak Skills Course provides the skills and knowledge necessary for day-long sea kayaking trips in sheltered waters.  This course takes the novice paddler beyond paddling on a flat water into the sport of Sea Kayaking.

Participants will experience wind and waves on the ocean, developing their own comfort levels while kayaking in these conditions.  You will be practicing your stroke and rescue techniques, as well as other skills required to safely plan and go on a day trip with a group of friends.

The focus of this course is on safety and gaining paddling skills. You will learn how to handle issues of mutual safety between paddling partners and sea  conditions. The technique for packing a kayak and the gear necessary for a comfortable day trip will also be covered. Reading a marine Chart and compass skills will be introduced along with using the tide and current tables.

The  Sea Kayak Level 1 Skills is a 16-hour course.  The cost is $250 per person (minimum 2 people) and can be completed over two weekends dependent on tides and weather conditions.
